Our Mission

To provide and sustain a safe space where all youth have the opportunity for development, empowerment, and support.

Our Vision

All youth are included as valuable members of a community who are rich with experiences and are able to identify their positive contributions to self and others.

What youth ask us… and how members answer.

What does "EPIC" mean?

Great question! It signifies that this is a place to embrace  Enrichment, Prevention, Individuality and Community.

What is it?

We are a youth drop-in center — a safe and welcoming gathering place. So in very practical terms, we are a house on Worthington Avenue. But we are much more than that! We are also a program that encourages healthy development in people ages 12-17.

Who is it for?

Any youth age 12-17 is welcome. We serve the Geneva area.

What kinds of services or activities do you provide?

EPIC Zone provides opportunities for pro-social recreation, peer supports, education, wellness, skill-building, and other meaningful activities.  At EPIC Zone we intentionally deliver services through the evidence based practices of the Developmental Relationships and several areas of the 40 Developmental Assets provided by the Search Institute.

Why do youth love it?

They love having a place to share their thoughts and ideas, discovering ways to share power and fulfill their needs, desires, and goals.

So, what do you do there?

Play basketball, hang out with friends, play games, video game, talk about a lot of things, laugh, try new things. It’s different everyday but there are the same things to do too.

What's a level?

A level is when you get a consequence for not following the behavior expectations. We must follow the expectations to keep it all safe and problem free. Usually, it is just a chance to change your behavior but if you cannot control yourself you can be asked to and expected to leave. Staff will talk to you next time you come back to help you think of a better way to manage yourself and make sure you understand what you did and why it was not ok.

Are there rules?

Yes, but good rules like you should have.

Can I get help with schoolwork?

Yes, staff will help you or try to find you the help you need.

What do you talk about?

We talk about everything. We have open, honest conversations about what ever comes up. Sometimes other people come in from other places to talk to us about things that help us make decisions for a good future. We can say whatever we think, and staff listen and help us think about all sides of things.

Who is there?

People my age and staff. Friends, people I know and some I do not.

Is there food?

Yes, every day! We get snacks and can make dinner for everyone that is there, but you have to be part of the whole process including cleaning up. It helps us be responsible and learn new skills.

When can I go?

Anytime they are open. You can stay as long or as little that you want. You do not have to go, it’s your choice.

Do I have to do things if I don't want to?

You don’t have to but sometimes it ends up being fun when you try new things.
